About Our Support
We look to be catalytic in our impact and to fund organizations that support vulnerable and marginalized communities as they work creatively and collaboratively towards transformational change. Our funding is flexible, and we can provide multi-year funding and general operating support where merited. We actively champion the work of our grantees, supporting them beyond the funding we provide by advocating to other funders and making connections to peer or complementary organizations.
Our funding areas are:
Civic Engagement
We fund work in New York City that challenges threats to our democracy, promotes activism, and supports the social drivers of health across a range of issues. We support policy advocacy, community service and community organizing, movement building, and technical assistance.

Arts Education
We fund work that sparks creativity in young people through experiences in the visual and performing arts—experiences that strengthen the fabric of our society by encouraging new perspectives and challenging the status quo. We support arts education programs and advocacy efforts that focus on the development of creativity in young people who are currently enrolled in New York City Public Schools. This includes classroom partnerships and after school programs.
First-time Applicants
As we frequently support our grantees for several years, we often have limited funds for new organizations. However, we do like to hear about new work and institutions in our areas of focus. If you are a first-time applicant, please submit a short (2-3 pages) letter of introduction to office@kornfeldfdn.org. We may then request a meeting to get to know your organization better and/or invite you to submit a full proposal.
